Who Are International Students?

An "International Student" is any student whose country of citizenship is outside the United States of America and who is present (or wishes to be present) in the U.S. because he/she possesses a current F-1 visa.

The steps below are for admissions to EMCC.

  1. 1. Complete the electronic APPLICATION FOR ADMISSION.

  2. 2. A copy of the student's valid passport.

  3. 3. Submit Your Health Records

Provide proof of immunization against Measles, Mumps, and Rubella. In addition, the State of Mississippi requires all new foreign applicants to be screened for Tuberculosis by a local office of the Mississippi Department of Public Health. This screening must be completed within two weeks of your arrival in the US.

  4. 4. Submit Secondary School Transcript

A certified, translated, and official transcript of the secondary scholastic record, which includes a graduation or completion date, OR a transcript equivalent as determined on a case-by-case basis by International Admissions. You can find an approved Credentialing Agency by visiting NACES.

  5. 5. Submit College Transcripts

Officially certified, translated, and evaluated college transcripts from all non-U.S. colleges attended, if applicable. Acceptable translation services are World Education Services (WES) and SpanTran.

You can find an approved Credentialing Agency by visiting NACES.

  6. 6. Submit U.S. College Transcripts (if applicable)

Official college transcripts from all U.S. colleges attended if the student is transferring from within the United States to EMCC.

  7. 7. Evidence of proficiency in the English language.

Proficiency may be demonstrated by a minimum score of 61 on the Internet-based or 173 computer-based TOEFL or a score of 95 or higher on the Duolingo English Test. Official test scores should be sent directly to EMCC by the TOEFL testing center or through Duolingo.

  8. 8. Statement of Finances

A completed Statement of Finances must be submitted to demonstrate adequate financial resources to cover college and personal expenses during attendance. Supporting financial documents, such as English-translated bank statements, should also be provided to verify pledged financial support.

Affidavit of Support: The Financial Affidavit of Support is an agreement that must be signed by the student and the student's sponsor. The sponsor can be a parent, relative, friend, or agency that agrees to pay the student's expenses while attending college. The sponsor must submit bank documents as proof that they have enough funds to cover one year of the student's expenses.

If you have more than one sponsor, each sponsor must complete the Financial Affidavit of Support.

Additional documents may be required depending on the students' circumstances. International students must submit these documents to the EMCC Admissions Office prior to the issuance of an I-20 document.

Note: International students must enroll in and maintain enrollment in at least 12 credit hours each semester of study. Online courses cannot count toward a full course of study.
